Child-Led, Play Driven Approach
Activities are guided by children’s interests. This promotes independence, problem-solving, and confidence, as kids take manageable risks, build social skills, and develop creativity at their own pace.
Holistic Development
Nature school supports physical, emotional, social, and cognitive growth. Time outdoors improves physical health, boosts well-being, and nurtures teamwork, empathy, and respect for nature and others.

Meet the Team
Small group, big impact!
🌳
At our nature school, we believe every child deserves individual attention and space to grow. That’s why we keep our group intentionally small — with enrollment capped at just eight children.
We maintain a 2:4 provider-to-child ratio, ensuring each child feels seen, supported, and safe while exploring the outdoors. This low ratio allows us to truly follow each child’s interests, nurture their confidence, and create meaningful connections with nature — and each other.
🌿 Discovery Kids Nature School — Q&A
What is Nature School?
Nature school (aka Forest School) is an outdoor, nature-based learning program where children spend most or all of their time outside exploring, playing, and discovering the natural world. It encourages curiosity, creativity, confidence, and resilience through hands-on experiences.
Who is nature School for?
Our program is designed for children ages 18 months – 2.5 years old. We welcome curious explorers who enjoy being outdoors in all weather.
Can older or younger children join?
Our nature School is specially designed for toddlers ages 18 months - 2.5 years. If your child is just outside this age range, feel free to reach out — we may have occasional mixed-age sessions or sibling accommodations.
Where is the Forest School located?
Children explore in nearby Prospect Park. Lunch, rest/nap, and end of day activities are facilitated inside of discovery kids.
What does a typical day look like?
A day includes free play, guided nature walks, storytelling, nature crafts, snack breaks, and plenty of unstructured time to explore and imagine. We follow the children’s interests while weaving in seasonal learning and stewardship of nature.
What if the weather is bad?
We embrace all seasons! Children come dressed for the weather, and we adapt activities as needed. In extreme weather, we facilitate class in Discovery kids. we will be closed for weather advisories.
What should my child bring?
A water bottle, a hearty snack, and weather-appropriate gear (rain boots, waterproof pants, warm layers, sun hat, etc.). We’ll provide a full recommended gear list upon enrollment.
How do you keep children safe outdoors?
Safety is our top priority. We maintain low adult-to-child ratios, establish clear boundaries, teach outdoor safety skills, and stay within sight and sound of the group at all times.
How do I enroll my child?
Spaces are limited to keep our ratios small. Please sign up for an open house or secure your spot for Fall 2025!
